Iconic Story of Risk and Achievement
In Spring 2010, Leif Whittaker climbed to the summit of Mount Everest and gazed down at the world. It was an experience he had dreamed about for a lifetime—a dream inspired by his father, Jim Whittaker, who became the first American to stand in the very same place 47 years before his youngest son. Talk about walking in your father’s footsteps!
And then Leif summitted Everest again, for a a SECOND time, in 2012. Click here for some footage from that Expedition.
Leif has had many incredible adventures: sailing for four years throughout the South Pacific islands, living with squatters in Europe, being robbed on buses in Ecuador, and building an off-the-grid log cabin in the wilderness of Washington State.
A graduate of Western Washington University and now based in Bellingham, WA, Leif has published a book about his adventures so far, My Old Man and the Mountain.
He has also summitted the highest peaks in both Antarctica (Mt. Vinson) and South America (Aconcagua). And spends summers as a ranger for the US Forest Service on Mt. Baker in WA State.
Beyond all these ‘round-the-world adventures, Leif’s greatest passion is storytelling.
An eloquent writer and speaker, he accompanies his customized keynotes with photographs and video segments, and presents his one-of-a-kind perspective from the highest places on the planet. His candor, humor and passion for adventure are sure to entertain, motivate and inspire.
A slice of audience’s comments:
“When I tell you that the Port employee group were really impressed with your presentation yesterday I’m not exaggerating. Fellow employees were still mentioning this morning how much they enjoyed your presentation yesterday (believe me this is rare). I think this will go down as one of the most memorable employee events in recent Port history… Leif, I sincerely think you reached the audience on several levels yesterday; motivationally, inspirationally, passionately and I could go on.”
–Steve Shipman, Port of Bellingham
“Leif Whittaker was very personable and well organized and meticulous in his presentation set up and delivery. His presentation was well received by a wide range of business sectors from small tourism businesses to emergency service personnel.”
–Karen Lane, Fairbanks Visitor’s Bureau
“We received very good feedback from attendees; I saw many glowing eyes after the talk.” –Carissa Dilley, Hostelling International USA
“Leif Whittaker is an outstanding speaker. He did a presentation for our hospital to help us kick off a new project. He was very motivational for our employees. His combination of amazing photographs, heart-wrenching stories and humor was perfect for our organization. As a world adventurer with a great understanding of themes such as perseverance, teamwork, friendship and hard work, Leif really got his message across to our staff. We would have him back in a heartbeat.” –John Nowak, Jefferson General Hospital
